Welcome to the Wyoming Council of Teachers of Mathematics web site! WCTM joins similar groups from 8 other western states to form the Western Affiliates Region of NCTM.   If you would like to visit the NCTM web site, click here.

The goal of this website is to inform math teachers of upcoming events, give up to date news, have sample lesson plans for teachers to use, and supply informative math links.

This Months News:

We have three WCTM members who received the Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards.  Congratulations to Jennet Ballinger, Rachel Schroder, and Bernie Schnorenberg!  "These teachers are our stars.  They not only teach, but also inspire, advise, and care for their students.  They are valued members of their school faculties and their entire communities." said Arch Coal Chairman and CEO Steven F. Leer.

Statewide Results are in!!!  The 2009 Wolzborn-Drazovich Memorial State Math contest was a success and we have the results.  Click here to see the results.

WCTM Constitution

Amended October 1993 (changes January 2006)

 

Article 1 Name

This organization shall be called Wyoming Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  It may affiliate with the national council by majority vote.

 

Article II Purpose

The purpose of the organization shall be:

1) A non-profit organization that is organized for educational and scientific purposes including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to the organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code or any corresponding section of future federal tax code. 

2) To encourage and maintain interest in the teaching of mathematics and to promote professional growth among its members.

3) To facilitate communication with all teachers of mathematics in the State.

4) To maintain contact with all professional educators in the State and to coordinate efforts when feasible. 

5) To promote among all teachers a genuine concern for the citizens of the State.

6) To promote and explicate the profession with all citizens of the State.

7) To communicate with the State Department of Education in all matters affecting the teaching of mathematics within the State.

8) To  not participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing of distribution statements) any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office.   

9) To represent the State at the National NCTM meetings.

10) To be a strong voice for the teaching and learning of mathematics for all students.

11) To recognize and show appreciation for people who have contributed to math education in the State.

 

Article III Membership and Dues

Section 1.  Any person interested in the teaching of mathematics shall be eligible for membership in this organization.

Section 2. Any person eligible for membership may become a member of the organization by paying the established dues annually.

Section 3. The amount of the dues for the ensuing school year shall not be changed except by a vote of the membership prior to June 1.

 

Article IV Officers

Section 1. The officers of the organization shall be president, president-elect, secretary and treasure.  The president-elect, secretary, and the treasure shall be elected by the membership prior to June 1 biannually.

Section 2. The term of each officer shall be two years commencing the day following the election at the general membership meeting.  For the purpose of continuity, the president-elect shall become president; the immediate past president (or an alternate appointed by the president) shall serve as NCTM representative.

Section 3. Duties of the officers shall be as follows:

a)       The president shall preside over all meetings, appoint ad hoc committees, take specific actions to implement directives of the membership, shall serve as an ex-officio member of all committees. 

b)       The executive committee shall appoint a director in each region of the State.  Regional Directors shall serve a term of up to five years.  It is then the Regional Director's obligation to make a nomination from their region to the executive committee.

c)       The president-elect shall perform the duties of the president during his/her absence, supervise the district directors, and serve as editor of the newsletter.

d)       The secretary shall keep all written records and carry on all correspondence of the organization. 

e)       The treasure shall receive and disburse the funds of the organization at the direction of the president.

 

 

Article V Fiscal Policy

 Section 1. No part of the net earnings of the organization shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributed to its members, trustees, officers, or other private persons, except reasonable compensation for services rendered and for payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes of Article II hereof.

Section 2. The fiscal year shall be from November 1 to October 31 of any year.

 

Article VI Meetings

Section 1. Meetings shall be held semi-annually.

Section 2. The president is authorized to call special meetings as needed.

 

Article VII Committees

Ad hoc committees shall be appointed by the president as the need arises.  The executive committee shall consist of the president, president-elect, secretary, treasure, membership chair, the NCTM representative, and the regional representatives. 

 

Article VIII Amendments

The constitution may be amended by vote of two-thirds of the members present at any meeting provided the amendment was presented at a previous meeting.

 

Article IX Dissolution

If, at any time, the council shall cease to carry out the purpose as herein stated, all assets and property held by it, whether in trust or otherwise shall after the payment of its liabilities, be paid over to an organization, selected by the final officers of the council, which has similar purposes and has established its tax exempt status under section 501 © (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
